Cycling on Television

I have to admit to watching Top Gear and there was a strong inference last night that Hammond sometimes cycles to work (much to the derision of his taller boorish colleague...you know the one).

With the alleged boom in cycle ownership and with more and more commuting at least on occasions I wonder whether it is time for a series covering say recreational and commute cycling. What should it cover? Perhaps Hammond himself could present it? I am not sure how you go about suggesting such a series to programme makers?

Does anybody have any thoughts?

It's a pretty broad subject though. I ride about 140 miles a week for work, shopping a d recreation but wouldn't watch a programme about bike racing or race bikes if you paid me.
People at work race at weekends but don't talk to me as I'm not a proper cyclist.
It would be nice to see something on cycling, just not sure what. I know that's not very helpful.

In reality it would only be viable on one of the minor digital channels like Discovery.

Looks like we may well see more cycling on tv, there was 'the ride of my life' recently, and a series started today on radio 4, so perhaps the increased interest in cycling will be reflected in the media. Perhaps not a magazine program like top gear, but I could happily do without that I think.

There was some program on the telly last night about Claire Balding cycling around the Isle of Wight.

Ah, Britain by Bike on BBC4 - also on iplayer

I'm at the 'developing programme ideas' stage with a production company at the moment .

There doesn't seem to be much in the way of 'review' shows on TV any more. Top Gear and The Gadget Show are more about wacky exploits than serious product analysis, Film XXXX is hardly ever on, Newsnight Review is horrendously pretentious and spoiler laden ("oh yes and that twist at the end where (x) happened, I saw that coming a mile off haw haw haw"), no music review shows any more, and no one bothers with video game review shows either.

Can't see a regular cycling show happening and lasting unless they make it about way more than just bicycles.

Two words "Caravan Channel"

Low budget and poor presenters , this is what you would get on some late night never heard of satallite channel if there was a Top Gear type bike channel.
