Honest - I do appreciate the internet and have found some great cycling websites - CC for starters:smile:

However i need to convince my 12 year old that reading bits of paper is still helpful:smile:

He does loads of sports but after years of flying round on a mountain bike he has decided he would like to get his first road bike.

Any suggestions which of the many cycling magazines would be best to help him ( and me ) understand the what, why and how of road cycling:smile:

Cycling Plus if you're new to it.

Gets a bit repetitive after a 12 month subscription, but what mag doesn't?

The Bikeradar website covers other magazines by the same publisher and usually publishes the mag articles a few weeks after the printed version.

Not so keen on Cycling Plus, seems to always be reviewing bikes for £500 or £1000 or whatever. Probably what you are looking for though.

Used to like Cycling Weekly, but that seems to going away from racing scene, not so keen on it now.

Get him a copy of Cycle Sport if he's into the professional race scene.

There's also a new magazine out, Cycling Active £3.99 every two months. Very similar to C+, printed by the same co as cycling weekly ARAIK

+1

Pretty much what I found too, they get repetitive but are good for the first few reads till you gain enough knowledge to weigh stuff up.

Welcome.

In the early/mid 80's I used to buy 'Bicycle' magazine. I think that it ceased to exist in its original form in the late 80's or early 90's. This was a high quality mag and I havent seen anything that is as good since. Shame - wish I had kept my original copies........(hmm...think I'll have a quick look on ebay....)

I used to read "Winning" mag in early Eighties - think it was American, but always had great photos and articles on European pro racing.
