Was out in the rain this morning in all my waterproof gear. It was brilliant! I was nice and dry and warm, was enjoying it so much that actually managed to cover about 31 miles in total in about 2 hours 45 mins. I wasn't completely dry by the end of it but I loved every minute of it!

Anyways keeping dry wasn't really the issue, its was cleaning the bike after.... I know there are loads of threads about bike cleaning etc etc but I was just wondering what people do to keep there chain/gear mech and the rest of the bike clean after a ride out in the rain.

When I got home I whiped off as much water off the frame as possible. Got a rag and whiped down the chain and gear mech. It was covered in all sorts of crap that got chucked up with the water. I didnt have great deal of time when I got back so I thort id just get as much of the water off as possible and then deal with lubing the chain later. That was this morning... I just had a look at the bike now and the chain had areas of rust showing on it which shocked me! The bike is only 3 ish months old and I always keep the chain clean using the mickle method. So I relubed/whiped etc as per the mickle method the rust marks went away after this.

What other areas of the bike should I be looking at after a ride in the rain? I'm guessing I should have re lubed the chian straight away... but are is there any thing else I should be doing as well??

Thanks!!

Top tip: If you commute to work in the rain, make sure your underwear is in a water proff bart of your bag, as when you get to work and your boxer and socks are soaking wet is not a good start to the day

I guess it's not sunny in Brum, today?

Just wipe and oil the chain. Don't need to do a complete drivetrain clean after one rainy ride.

Mudguards will protect drivetrain (and you) from the worst of the road grit.

I rarely do more than give the chain a run through an oily rag and perhaps wipe down the rims. I give it a proper clean when the weather is nice (after checking the forecast, no point in having to do it all again)
