There was a thread the other day questioning why bikes would be on bike racks and I answered that it's so we can take the family bikes over to France.

This year we stayed on a campsite near Beziers, Languedoc and found the place to be every bit as cycle friendly as we expected. Seven or eight miles from the campsite on virtually traffic free routes was the Canal Du Midi. Tarmacc'd, shaded by plane trees and in beautiful countryside this family cycling gem gave us several days' worth of family trips. Even Mrs Cube rode with us on a hire bike.

I got in several runs in the mornings while the family stayed in bed, and a two hour run our from the campsite meant a thirty mile round trip on the Cube. (It was all flat!)

Best bit of all though was the MTBing. The French enjoy some organic trails, and a bit of detective work with local bike shops uncovered this absolute gem of a series of paths and trails at Nissan Lez Enserune. Thorny and rocky in places, it nevertheless had a superb mix of fast singletrack,

some hairy descents and drops,

with all the climbing you want in 30 plus degrees. We were very glad of the fluids and the patch kits

Hi Cubist - we did the France with bikes thing as well. I've just posted in the other thread. I also got out for an hour or so in the morning most days before everybody else got up. I went to the shop for a couple of fresh baguettes and some croissants on the way home - magic!
