Cycling holiday i ride , mrs sits round the pool maybe ..?

Evening all ...

Right please bear with me on this one as currently I've done no search / research whatsoever but thought I'd just ask anyway

I've just come back from a holiday in Ibiza just myself & the mrs , it was nice & we had a good time but after 2/3 days I was beginning to get a bit bored & starting to feel very lethargic !

Only so much lying on a sun bed that one can do , it all got a bit robotic , breakfast , sun bed , read book , lunch , sun bed , read , evening meal , entertainment etc repeat for the rest of the week !

I'm active and want to do a bit more or at least having something to actually get up for ..

This got me thinking about maybe a cycling holiday somewhere hot , maybe Majorca say for example , I get up go out for a ride , my mrs is not interested in cycling but would be happy to sit , read & put away a few local drinks whilst dangling her feet in the pool , of course I wouldn't be riding all day , guess be out early & back before its to hot ...?

Can I ask if anyone has done anything similar with there wife / partner etc ...? Or should I just forget it now , not mentioned it to the wife just yet ( in fear of getting shot down in flames ) just thought I'd ask lads & lasses first & maybe I can sell it to her with a bit of info

We've hired gites/villlas with pools in the past ... Two in Languedoc and one in Provence. Mrs Donger is happy to hang around the pool with a book while I go off riding for a couple of hours. I have now managed to increase my riding time without needing to feel guilty, by getting up at stupid o'clock in the morning and doing rides before the missus even gets out of bed. It always helps when I am able to then take her for a drive around to some of the places I have discovered.

A few days during the week was do'able for me. This was starting early and getting back by 2pm. However, I have two young kids so I was certainly using up brownie points.

I go to a holiday park in the Vendee, France; each morning there's a vaguely organised group bike ride (short with a couple of longer rides each week) plus more rides during the day, again some organised some far less so. SWMBO is fine with it as she can wander round at her leisure / sit by the pool / etc.

It's been great for the past 4 years but we're going in 2017, not this year.

Is this for middle of summer holiday? If not you could take her on a training camp Febuary, April or October. My club plus a few other in Essex use these guys ( lots of other companies about) some members take thier wives. http://www.ciclosol.com.

I'm off to Mallorca next week with the family for a fortnight and I've hired a bike for a week when I'm there. My Mrs is happy for me to get out and about. I'll probably get up early and be back in time for to spend a good part of the day with the family.

Thanks all , sounds possible then , I'll have a look at those link posted , but yes was think June / July next year .

I'll drop it into conversation later with the Mrs , if you don't here from me again you know why !

If she is anything like my ex she will be greatful of the peace and quite plus if it stops you moping about talking about how nice it would be to cycle up the coast road if you had a bike she will be well up for it.

Needless to say it may cost you in the form of a expensive holiday present but hey small price to pay well depending on her taste for expensive designer label goods.

All been said above. Did it on a family holiday in Lanzarote a couple of years ago. Out at sunrise (7am ish) for a good 3-4 hours every other day and usually back just as everyone was having breakfast so didn't miss out on any family time. Worked really well.

They look amazing for "rental" bikes.............how can they possibly carry so many bikes in so many sizes ?

I am off to Norfolk and taking my bike. There are just the 2 of us so I have "negotiated" 2 x half days (say 40 milers) and some shorter early morning or evening rides.
TBH when I said "I think I will take the road bike" I did get an 'over my dead body' look..........but my good looks and personality won her around

If I were you, I'd go for "I'm thinking of buying a bike so I can get some exercise in on a morning s couple of days before you get up" rather than "you just sit by the pool and that's dull, so I'm going to hire a bike"

Is there another couple you could go with - leave the women by the pool, guys go off cycling?
