Just got one of these:
http://www.rapha.cc/gentlemans-cap-1

And do feel I look pretty dapper in it ;)

However, having got both a Medium and a Large to try out, I find both to feel pretty tight, almost constricting, and don't feel there's that much between them.

Is this appropriate? Or have I just got too big a head for either?

I've yet to find one big enough for my head! I think the range of sizes tends to be a bit restricted.

I tend to leave my hats in cafes, pubs etc so its not that crucial wether they fit me or not.

A cycling hat has to be tight enough not to blow off, but not too tight.

I have a large diameter head: one-size-fits-all is definitely out, Large sometimes fits but it depends on the make.

(The first thing I do in any Outdoor Shop is try all the hats on, even if I do not need one.)

I have a tiny pin-head. (Fun fact, your skull only grows in response to the size of your brain, sucks to be me) Rapha caps are about the only ones which are tight enough not to be blown off if I'm not wearing a lid on top of them. So yeah, they need to be fairly tight so you don't loose them on a decent.

There's a message in there somewhere ......

People who buy overpriced Rapha gear are small-brained? ;)
