Cycling clubs near Manchester/Bury?

Hi I'm wondering if any of you could recommend any clubs nearby that location.

I'm 17, in College, and would like to get into serious road cycling/racing.

Bury CTC. Meet outside wilkinsons sunday mornings 9am. Check their website.

Probably further afield but another club to try is the Manchester Wheelers or the Lancs Road club aJ.

What happens in cycling clubs do you meet up have a bit of banter, go out for a ride stop somewhere for some more banter a few drinks and what not or is it a bit more formal? Im interested in joining one there are always large groups of cyclists going past my house, i reckon i could take most of them.

On a Sunday about three/four weeks back, I saw some riders with some kit that said something about Glossop. Think it was red and black. They were on the main road that goes past Salford Uni (you turn right to get to Sainsbury's in Salford). They were on racers or road bikes.

I thought about catching them up and asking about the club when they stopped at traffic lights, but was going a different way and had to catch Sainsbury's before it closed. Does anyone know anything about this club? And does it matter if you use a mountain bike as long as you can keep up (I am getting a road bike though at some point)?

I was tempted to go to the skyride tomorrow, but it is my grandfathers birthday so I think I will be going over there.
