The Flying Scotsman is a good dvd and an even better book.

Just bought the flying Scotsman for my dad and he is really enjoying it.

I would really recommend Miles from Nowhere by Barbara Savage. It is about 2 Americans who cycled round the world in the 70s. An exceptional book IMHO.

I recently read Luarant Fignon`s "we were young and carefree"

An insightful book into a mans life that went beyond the 8 seconds he is "in"famous for.

In addition to those mentioned above, I've recently read:
- Put me back on my bike - William Fotheringham (about Tom Simpson)
- Why don't you fly? - Christopher Smith (UK to China)
- Full Tilt - Dervla Murphy (Ireland to India)
- A bike ride - Anne Mustoe (round the world)
- From Lance to Landis - David Walsh (drugs in pro cycling)

Enjoyed them all but my favourite was Flying Scotsman. I think I would take that to a desert island, if the need ever arose!
There was an excellent thread on the CTC forum on cycling books a few months ago. It ran to many pages with lots of suggestions

I've only just started reading it but the Geoff Thomas book seems good 'Riding Through The Storm'.

I read the man who cycled the world and enjoyed it, the man who cycled the americas is also out.

Im halfway through "Thunder and Sunshine" which is the second part of Alistair Humphreys 3-4 year round the world cycle. "moods of future joys" is the first part and is a brilliant book.

I have also read Its not about the bike, every second counts and "tour de lance" depends if you are an Armstrong fan but i really enjoyed each book and respect the guy.

+1 for Laurent Fignon's 'we were young and carefree' - recently read it and thoroughly enjoyed. Got a real feeling for the kind of guy he was, it was a nice read and being nearer to his age (I am 41) than many of todays cyclists I enjoyed him looking back. I am getting more and more into cycling and enjoyed the insights.

Matt Seaton's small book about cycling obsession called The Escape Artist is excellent, with a tragic twist at the end. You can read it in a couple of hours.
