My regular riding buddy is registered blind although he's not totally blind ,he's totally blind in his left eye and has a third of his sight in his right eye, we have grown up living next door but one to each other for 50 years ,he wouldn't feel confident with anyone else,.I guess we are just used to each other its second nature to me looking out for him.
No road cycling involved though, obviously

One of my club mates is a world champion paratriathlete whose eyesight got worse and worse as a teenager. He cycled until 21 when he didn't see a roundabout, went straight across it crashing into a lamp-post.

He now does turbo training and back of a tandem only

I guess you need proper medical assessment and also to decide whether certain whether conditions make it more or less dangerous

There is a tandem club in Bury that take out people that are partially sighted or blind. They are always looking for volunteers to ride on the front and go out every Sunday. A friend of mine goes out once a month with them.

Where do you ride then other than the dreaded turbo?

Plenty of local bridleways and off road routes ,canal towpaths etc

My missus is blind in one eye,.about a third down in the other. She will ride, but only during the day and only with me to give her cover and provide a commentary about what's coming our way.

"I was driving today when some bloody cyclists were two abreast making me slow down" is something i hear every now and then. Maybe the cyclist on the right was shadowing the poorly sighted cyclist on the inside? i reply!
