Since yesterday..feels like either a nerve issue, could be muscular..got a massive jolt down my lower back and leg when lifting,In agony and on painkillers since.
Problem is I'm doing the london to Brighton in 6 weeks..I'm praying this doesn't last, collected sponsor money already so doing it if it kills me.

Anyone got any advice for best back pain fixes and for getting through 60 miles in discomfort..this had better go away ,spoiling the training this weekend.

Surely better to stay off the bike altogether till that clears up?

in no way a diagnosis but does sound like sciatica, sounds very similar to the pain i had when this was diagnosed. i do a lot of stretching of the lower back regulalrly now, but get twinges when i push to hard a gear for too long and when not been riding regulalrly enough. go the see a Dr.

Sounds like a slipped disc. Straight off to the Dr.

But it may not be. Get down the docs to get it checked out.

You will be pleased to hear that I sufferred with it on and off for a number of years and it got progressivly worse no amount of stretching, osteo, massage etc helped and it got to the point that I struggled to ride a bike.

Until I went to the doctor and it was completely sorted in a couple of weeks. If it is a slipped disc (i.e. the disc bulges and presses on nerve which causes pain to travel along the sciatic nerve - bum to foot pain or spot areas along that plane).

Had one a years or so ago and was soon back on the bike once it was all sorted out by the professionals. The problem stayed away as well and cycling actually helps it as laying on the floor and effectively doing something rather akin to pedalling was a post op exercise (caudal epidural - not any other post op you may or may not be thinking of)

Did I mention get down the docs?

Sounds like sciatica - takes a good few weeks to go away - I remember about 6 weeks when it happened to me.

I had sciatica, for 4 months...one big op and a 6 inch scar later...cured

Go see the doctor and rest up

Defo see the Doc but lots of GPs will just prescribe painkillers and rest. I suffered for weeks and genuinely felt the lowest ever in my life.

One visit to a local Osteo who is also a registered Physio and within a day or two all was fine. Go to docs but at least consider Physio/ Osteo .What impressed me is that She knew within 5 minutes of examining me that I would only need one treatment .
