I just discovered today that I can claim expenses for using my bike as a means of transport at work.
20p a mile they'll pay me.

There are pool cars for longer journeys, but I'm oh so tempted to use the bike for getting around and doing local stuff if I can.
I have a site going just now which is only a couple of miles away from the office, a little plod up the road on the bike sounds like just the ticket.

I look forward to submitting an expenses claim for 80p.

I work for a certain IT company that sounds like it might make brown sauce - they don't allow the use of cycles or motorcycles for business.

Miserable sods.

just make sure you are not on a C2W scheme; if you are you can't claim a bean.

Not on the C2W bike I can't, but I can on the other bike.
I wouldn't bring the C2W bike in anyway, I would prefer the more relaxed trundling of ye olde hybride and velcro cycle clips for a relaxed potter along the road to my site.

One of our QS's has a nice new Orbea Hybrid through C2W, but sometimes brings his other bike in just so he gets to go out on it and claim the expenses.

He regularly does ten miles on his bike at work, during working hours and gets paid for it.
Well, you would, wouldn't you...

I didnt know this. What if its an old ex-C2W bike (one you've "bought" for FMV at the end of the scheme)?

See my response above.

It's only if it's currently a hire bike you can't use it.

If you've bought it, it's your bike.
You're good to go

I couldn't for a year whilst it was a CTW - have been for the last 12 months though. It's about 20 miles a week on average for me = £4 if I go into 'town' twice - hence my CTW discount wasn't that great.
