I'm thinking of building my own work stand.

Anyone got any ideas or can share any pictures?

:scratch::thanks:

I can't see the point TBH when everyone raves about the Aldi/Lidl ones, or FWIW I've had one of THESE for several years now and think it's ruddy fantastic.

One of them, Aldi/Lidl has a cycling sale on now AFAIK, don't know which one, or if they've got stands this time around, but must be worth a look.

IIRC they're about £40. [EDIT] £30 according to Mr Jamie, which in my book negates the time, effort and materials of trying to build one.

I got the lidl one a couple of months ago and I'm pleased with it. I think it was £30, its very very stable with a wide base area, clamps onto the bike tight enough to spin up the wheels etc. Handlebar holder and magnetic tray really is a nice touch especially given the price range.

Edit: added a picture. That's a large frame 700c Giant Seek 2 if anyone's curious

I hate the Aldi/Lidl ones ;) - they are far too similar to my Tacx Spider Pro which I paid over well £100 for a few years back...they look like they might even share some components.

I bought a fantastic gadget off eBay, can't recall the name but will go look it up if needed.

It's a wall - mounted plate and an arm which slots into it. On the end of the arm is a clamp for the bike. Very simple, sturdy, works brilliantly and the arm gets put away when not in use.

I need one of these in my life. I have been using one of the brolly base plates & resting the under crank on it. It was ok for a while until it fell off.

Is it this one?http://r.ebay.com/PpAM9V
I hope that link is right, I'm not so good with the tapatalk

That's it exactly. Comes with two wall mount plates so you can use it in different places.

Works like a charm. The only issue I had was the clamp on the tube which stops it rotating. The bolt head chewed into the plastic over time. Easily fixed by a bolt through the actual tube, no chance of rotating after that. Just thought I should mention it, if I'm recommending it. ;)

Thanks thats useful to know, I'd seen this clamp on another website and didn't realise it was ebay, very cheap, thanks for mentioning it!

I'm after something that'll slot/clamp in to my B&D style work bench... maybe with the bike sitting on the BB and a clamp on the downtube.

3 cables run along the top of the top tube so clamping from that isn't ideal.

Might have a try at whittling something.

I use the park tools stand, its the most stable I have used and the ability to spin the bike 360 degrees on the stand is amazing, not having to walk round the stand to get to the other side of the bike is just great.
