Cycle shoes or footware for people with wide feet?

Good morning all

I have wide feet - I am nicknamed Frodo at work as apparently I have hobbit like feet - and buying a comfortable pair of cycle shoes is proving difficult.

I have tried most major makes but not had any luck yet.

Can anyone recommend a make?

I've also got quite big and wide feet (no jokes please) and can't find a comfortable pair (in my somewhat limited budget), but to be honest I just make do with an old pair of trainers on both bikes, as the MTB goes off road a lot, and the Roadie has buckles on the pedals...

You don't say what type of shoe you want, but for general commuting I like Specialized Tahoes (spelling?). I have rather wide feet and they work very well for me.

Thank you for the replies. General commuting. I use standard flat pedals. I usually wear Clarks trainers which seem to be the only shop that caters for freaks of nature like me with Hobbit/Flipper type feet. The trouble with the trainers I use is that the soles are usually fairly soft and get chewed up by the pedals or road quicker than I would like. They are usually about 70 quid a pop too.

I have a few ideas now. Cheers all.

I ahve the same problem although my feet dont get me nick named frodo its just the 3 breakfasts i have that do that.
specialized are wider fitting, not sure about northwave, personally i didnt think they were, sidi are notoriously narrow. shimanos new shoes are wider than ever before and seem quite comfortable. hope that helps

My feet are fairly wide and I wear Northwave leisure shoes (can't recall the model but they are the £40 - £50ish ones) and Diadora road shoes. The Diadoras are pretty snug, but comfy enough for a full day in the saddle.

I also have hobbit feet, but that's because my toes are hairy.

I'm sure it could be done....but why bother? Just buy shoes that are fit for purpose. If you try to retrofit, I would imagine that the bolts will cause pain in your feet and the soles wouldn't be stiff enough to transfer the power. If you're only going to be pootling about, forget the cleats and use ordinary pedals/footwear.

The reason is that I find it a bit of a pain finding comfotable shoes that fit anyway, and obviously my choice with cycling shoes is even more limited. Hence the attraction of retrofitting a pair of trainers I know to fit.

Edit: I'm guessing if one was to retrofit some trainers you'd need to fit in a firm insole with the cleats attached to the bottom.

I've got wide feet too and always found Specialized shoes in general to be the best, not that I've tried every make of course.

Sidi's are the worst I've tried which is a shame as I really like them. ;)

Specialized have always been good relaiable products.

I imagine they've taken some foot moulds of Americans.

Nver understood this 'narrow foot shoe thing' ie Sidi's which is a real shame as the do - do some great shoes: real soft leather.

I did have a pair for AGES.

One of the best manufacturers in cycling.

I feel Northwave have got 'ahead on them -width in the shoe dept is never a bad thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

Jon Luck where also a good make but god knows what happened t them   :?:
