Hi,

Im planning on getting a new bike next year, in the region of £1000.
When the bike is at home it will be in a locked shed, and I shall install a ground anchor and use my motorbike lock that was sold secure approved, and weighs a ton! (It would have also cost a fortune but my aunt worked at Squire in Willenhall and got it at a discount). The shed will also be linked to the home security which is alarmed and also calls the police if tripped.

So, Thats the home sorted but what about when Im away, or leaving it at work (its a secure-ish site with a gatehouse and a bike shed, but better safe than sorry) or the gym? Im guessing on a budget of around £100.

I wouldn't be leaving a £1000 bike outside a gym no matter how good a lock I had,use your hack bike for that.
At work if it's fairly secure anyway then a gold rated D-Lock should be enough,Abus do one that is well regarded on here.Granite X plus 54.

My bike is worth more than 1000 and I leave it everywhere with a not so good lock
but I do have Insurance too so it makes me less bothered as new for old is never a bad thing ;)

I refuse to be dictated to by some little scrote as to what I ride.

I have two bikes in the £2k+, a trike in the same category and a couple in the 1k

Two good quality locks with a linking quality cable, and combine.
Fit a tracking / ID somewhere - I use immobilise
Always padlock frame and both wheels to something solid and immoveable
Always lock in view of a CCTV
Never park somewhere regularly
Always check regularly

Then the nasty selfish bit....

Always park near a poosrly locked and attractive bike - they will go for the easier target!

ALl you needed to know and lots you didn't is available on the "Lock it or Lose it" article here

Abus granite or a New York Fahg - £55 (my preference) from Parker International. Also use additional security on front wheel - Abus Bordo for me and a cable lock to secure the saddle.
