hi all im kinda new here.my works are just setting up this cycle scheme so there is a lot of interest among the employees our main bike shops around where we are is tredz,my friend who phoned up and asked for a quote on a tourer, cant remember the name of it asked about the price of the bike and when he said he would be buying it through the cycle scheme they said they would have to add an extra 10% on top..whats that all about.i live in bridgend s.wales.do all bike shops who run this scheme do the same thing?or is it just this scaming shop,i mean the whole idea of this scheme is to shave a bit off the price before gordon gets it,surely it makes no odds to the bike shop how the bike is bought..

Most suupliers only sell at list price under the scheme, so maybe the bike in question was discounted & they upped the price to RRP for the scheme ?

yes the bike was discounted i think it was £1100 down to £900 somthing, but surely that dont make it right though, bah im not dealing with them for that reason and im sure they gone and lost a lot of money because of it,anyhow being new here could any of you experienced riders tell me what bike you would have in mind given the cash available on this scheme, ive rode a mountain bike for the last 10 years and am certainly a bit green in this field of road biking i will be testing a few out to find which one suits but am looking for a good entry level with half decent components on it

Wow, you could do with using some full stops!

I've been talking to Tredz about a bike as it happens. You might not know this, but CycleScheme add 10% as a charge to the LBS so if they have a bike on sale at 20% off and they sell it through CyclesScheme they lose 30%!
Most of these places work on pretty low margins so I don't think it's unreasonable to add the 10% back in.
Still, if you think you can find another LBS that will offer their full discount even when using C2W vouchers, good luck to you (I don't think you will!).
FWIW, I've been looking for a couple of weeks now and Tredz seem to be cheapest shop that you can get the bike I'm after, and when I spoke to them they seemed pretty helpful.

Your employer may decide to go with a particular supplier. Your biggest savings are on VAT and Tax, so even if bike is RRP you could save 30 - 40% (50% if you pay higher rate tax) and it comes off in monthly instalments.

I've found Tredz to be competitive in price - bought my SCR 2 from them.

+1
I am buying a discounted Giant via CycleScheme and also had 10% added due to the amount of discount. Non-offer bikes have no such 'surcharge' - Not a problem for me because I had priced it up pre-discount so it is still a lot cheaper than I had expected.

I was going to buy a Dawes Super Galaxy from Spa Cycles (£920), but they would have also added back the 10% that Cyclescheme charge them taking the price to over £1000. Luckily I discovered that my local shop had a touring bike in stock (Ridgeback Panorama), with similar spec and they would do it for £880 and not charge any premium for cyclescheme, so I went with them. I also bought some Ortlieb panniers. I'll end up paying £684 over 12 months for my bike and panniers, which would have cost £970 cash, so I'm well pleased.

Stop whinging and count yourself lucky your company are runnng this scheme (which will still save you between 30-50% on the cost of a bike). My company runs no such scheme so I had to pay the full price for my bike!
