In terms of making a point I think it's acceptable.
Especially as this is an opion piece / review / commentary and not a 'reporting' article

It's punctuated as if someone was trying to talk whilst breathing heavily, and it emphasises the point.

Using "peddled" instead of pedalled is a bit sad though. Spellcheck, I expect.
