I was unsure what section this should go in. I'm thinking of canceling my subscription to my PC mag I get posted every month and swapping this for a cycling mag. What magazine in the UK would you recommend?

It depends on which sector of cycling you are interested in, commuting, utility, racing, leisure, off-road, touring etc etc.

The CTC magazine covers my cycling magazine requirements.

Im interested in commuting and improving my times round a circuit, eventually leading onto 60+ mile sportives/races (where its more for taking part than placing atm lol)

Even though I complained initially about the price increase I enjoy reading Procycling it is probably the most expensive one out there at the moment but the quality of the writing photographs and even the paper is really worth the cost. To make it more affordable I have even sibscribed to it.I also buy The Comic Cycling Weekly but that is more out of habit.

I like Cycling Active. Despite its name, it reports on "normal" people, preparing larger people to complete a 100 in one season, looking at bikes from £500-£1k, recommended rides of 30-ish miles, it has plenty of stuff that I recognise from my cycling life.

I've read half a dozen issues of Cycling Plus, it's a good read but it seems, IMO, to be aimed at people who have more income and more commitment than I can manage, so...

...I'd recommend Cycling Plus for DavieB. It's more about longer rides, more expensive bikes, more serious training. It contains the sort of words I don't understand but I see frequently in Jimboalee's posts.

I reckon Cycle Active is a beginners mag. That's not a criticism btw, it probably aims to be just that. Personally, I find little of interest in it. Cycling Plus is a better read, imho, but its formula does get repetitive. Can't comment on MTB mags, nor the more cycle racing aimed mags, but found CTC's mag consistantly interesting, likewise the Audax UK mag and VeloVision is worth a look now and again too.

But it all depends what you want to read about.

Cycling plus is ok, and weekly is more affordable on a sporadic purchase. I chiefly bought them as I was on the road working alot and made nice bog/hotel room reading material. I did however notice after about 6 months that they tend to regurgitate their material after a while.

I got a subscription to Cycling Plus as a birthday present and it was great for the first 5 or 6 issues and the same old drivel seems to come round again and it's definately aimed at the serious cyclist rather than the leisure cyclist ... i did enjoy reading cycling active on the few occasions that i've bought it

What mountain bike is my favoured mag for Mountain Bike related stuff

CTC mag is really very good and a bi monthly freebie for members. Membership is £37 thinks which would amount to similar amount for a monthly sub for a journal

...and now for something completely different:

Save some money and just read City Cycling on line, written by real world cyclist for real world cyclist. Not a bunch of TdF wanabies like some mags I could mention. It really depends on whether you are a "serious cyclist" (what ever that is?) or not...
