Cycle lane rant.

Is it just me or every time you find a bike lane that actually doesn't have cars parked in it there's so much debris that it's just not fit for use?
There's one a few miles from me on a very busy road and it's actually not too bad junk wise. Trouble is the council trim the hedge/trees up to the edge of the road and not the edge of the cycle path so unless you're on a recumbent it's useless.
You know what, even though I don't like the idea of them, if it meant we'd have some usable cycle routes I'd gladly pay an annual licence.

There's only one cycle lane I use on my travels, and then only for about 200 metres. The half a dozen other ones around here aren't fit for purpose. Too narrow, and filled with crap.

was coming back from a long ride in the dark on Friday, saw traffic had the option to go in cycle lane or cross the junction via roundabout. I always stick to the road checked anyway the cycle lane path and lane was full of glass. Funny how the pavement which is next to the path was not.

Similar up here too.

They are usually full of parked cars, which prevent the road sweepers from getting in to clean the cycle lanes; and on the rare occasions when you do find them free of parked cars, all the detritus remains

Here on the North Wales coast we are lucky enough to have a cyclepath running most of the length of the coast, and it is totally separate from the roads ( apart from a short stretch alongside the A55 near Conwy). The main problem, especially in winter, is the build up of sand. To be fair, Denbighshire council do a good job near Prestatyn, but Conwy council are not too quick around the Rhyl/Kinmel Bay area.

the ones round here arent too bad, bristol to bath has a few tree roots trying to find the sun, my main bug bear is that they have put cycle lanes in the door zone of parking spaces!
