I know and enjoy the PO in the Great Park for tea and a sticky bun but can any one recommend a cycle friendly cafe for lunch in Windsor or therebouts?

Given that lunch in Windsor can range from a couple of quid to a couple of hundred, what sort of price range are you considering?

There's a couple of pavement cafés / ice cream parlours on Thames Street (the road down to Eton Bridge) which you can bring your bike to the table. From Eton Bridge, there's Brown's, on the corner of River Street and Barry Avenue, with a load of outdoor tables looking over the river.

Or, again, on the pavement at the bottom of Peascod Street down towards 51, there's a pizza place down there. There's also a few pavement cafés in King Edward Court, with Costa, Windsor Great Perk and Cinnamon in the Royal Station, you can leave your bike within view of any of those.

You can sit outside the Chicago Rock on William Street if you are looking for a bit more expensive or there's a couple of greasies, like Monty's, on St Leonards Road.

For something a little different, the Crooked House next to the Guild Hall, although there's no bike parking I think you can lock them to the railings round the Guild Hall.

I've saved the best to last though, as my favourite is the one along Barry Avenue (between the Royal Windsor Wheel and the Thames). Strange opening times, as it's more for tourists than travellers, but, if you are going for lunch, you can sit on the grass by the river.

*sigh* I wish it was summer again. ;)

http://www.theroyallandscape.co.uk/visiting/eating-at-the-savill-building.cfm I think Savill Gardens opens for lunch. The roof is a wonder of timber engineering by Engineers HRW - but then you didn't need to know that!

I'm pretty sure they do lunch. Savill Gardens is quite expensive, but it's on the runs list for my CTC area as a coffee stop. There is bike parking outside.

I get fed up going there, because when ever I get home it always seems to be blooming Savill Gardens ;).....it is a nice building though!

The only other place I can think of that we go out that way is the Windsor Farm Shop:

Again, only been for coffee stop, but there website seems to suggest light lunches like sarnies and soups. Doesn't have cycle parking, but there are places to lock up to right outside so it's not really a problem.

to all who responded: thanks for the comments/suggestions and silly me for not saying that and I am not looking for a lycra clad gourmet experience but want to avoid the greasy spoon caff. Obviously I would prefer to avoid the high profile twee tourist places. I remember that the Central Station has been well refurbished and has an airy atmosphere even though totally covered. I might try there first and if unsuccessful in Windsor I might push to the pub on the road to Dorney Court.

The Palmer's Arms in Dorney? Nice place, very nice, about a mile (by crow) from my place.

Savill Gardens and the Royal Farm Shop are both good but pricey (IMO). The food at the Farm Shop is very good but bum-basic and not many hot options, although we shop there most weeks as a good friend lives about 100 yards away. I haven't been to the Savill Gardens in about 4 months, though, must get back there. Glorious building, as dz points out and some good rides through or around the Park. Here's some I took earlier...

Thanks for the suggestions.

Dellzegg: Savill Gardens - indeed an interesting building but v closed at 0830 yesterday morning (opens at 1000)

Norm: I know Palmer Arms but had forgotten about it. It was, no doubt is, a good place for lunch but not sure about a quick biker's fuel stop. I will try it in the summer.

After extensive research for you, gbs, I can recommend the Zero 3 cafe in Eton High Street. There's a decent set of bike racks just along the road and a good lunch-time feed there is about £4.50 including coffee. It can get busy in the summer, though and use good locks there, as I've lost a bike from there, even though it was locked up.

Oh, the other one I've found recently is on the south side of Eton Bridge, on the left as you look towards the castle. That place is packed with cyclists every Sunday morning, no particular club, just a very popular coffee stop.

OK, I give up, I am resisting no more.

I am going to Savill Gardens in the morning. The Mother is coming over to look after the brats and the forecast looks good. It's a nice run for me, as I live just the other side of the park.

I went, grabbed some more pix (I'll post later, Small Norm I is trying to get the computer), had a coffee and a short walk, then came home again. Lovely although nothing annual is more than 1cm above the ground yet.

I got snowed upon on the way home, which was nice, and got a puncture which my LBS fixed FOC, which was also nice.

I just realised that I did upload the photos but Shaun was doing some spring cleaning on Friday night so I didn't post them.
