Cycle event near Crewe?

I was coming home this evening on my usual route from Wardle to Crewe and chanced upon a sign dictating there was a cycle event in progress. It was at the small village of Cholmondeston where I saw it, nestled on the side of the road up against a hedge. See the SV page below to see where I found it.

As far as I know there are no cycle events that have happened around here over the weekend or are planned for the near future. Can anybody enlighten me as to which even the sign may refer to?

What was it's colour ?

I haven't seen it before so I doubt it was from the CC as I have ridden that route repeatedly over the past few months. I can't recall the colour but it definitely wasn't the striking pink K2G signs that they over the CC route. I am not going back that way until Thursday so it may have gone by then depending if and when this event occurs.
