I used to cycle a lot in my youth and i am considering getting a bike to cycle to and from work and basically for everyday use. Where i stay is quite hilly and my commute to work takes me up some serious hills. I have always had the road/racer type of bikes and these are the type of bikes i like.
Is there a type of bike that is more suited to climbing hills, a chap in my work who cycles to work suggests i get either a MTB or a hybrid bike and doesn't think i should go for a road racer type of bike. I would prefer to get a road racer type of bike but just want some opinions as to what you guys think would be best for me????

Welcome to Cycle Chat Moby.If you like road racers then get one. Mountainbikes are heavy slow hard work in comparison.

If its hilly and your not at a peak of fitness then make sure it has a wide range of gears to help you on steep hills. A triple front chain ring will give you a lower gear for getting up steep hills.

If using it for commuting make sure it can take mudguards, not all bikes have enough clearance at the brake calipers. Also make sure it has fixing points for a rear carrier rack. You can use a backpack but most people find them sweaty and uncomfortable.

If you want a road racer bike, then get one. You will only regret the decision if you didn't. If all you are doing is riding/commuting on roads then it is the way to go. Good luck with your choice. Keep us updated as to what you get.
