I have a Hi-Ten steel Raleigh Sensor. It has diagonal drop-outs. I want to use the frame to build a fixie. The problem is, the drive side rear drop-out is only half cut out (or half filled in if you prefer).

Is it at all possible for me to cut out the remainder and make it a whole drop-out?

Here's a pic of the frame.

How unusual.

Looking at it, I'd guess you should be OK removing up to half of what's between the current end of the slot and the back of the dropout.
Bear in mind that the dropout on the other side will have to match pretty exactly or the wheel won't go in straight and you could get funny handling issues.

I wouldn't do it on a frame I cared about, but I'd guess it's pretty much scrap otherwise?

well, i only noticed it after the frame was back from being powder coated... it looks like this now.

so it's not quite scrap. the frame was free though so i've only put £35 into it for the dip, phosphate and powder coat.

I had to butcher the dropouts of a Carbolite 103 (similar frame) to get the right tension. Removing/adding a link meant it was either at the end of the dropout (and hence slipping), or the chain was slack. I created a couple of extra mm on each side to get it right.

Good excuse to get the Dremel out and get those sparks flying imo.
