I recently bought a Kryptonite Evolution U lock in the hope of protecting my bikes from those of a sticky fingered persuasion from helping themselves to them.
It has a bracket for securing the lock to the bike frame for ease of carriage.....
Which works well, but the lock itself was driving me nuts with it's rattling. It was caused by the U section vibrating against the lock bar. There are 2 rubber rings on the U section but they do not fit tightly enough against the lock bar to prevent rattling. There is an easy fix for this; 2 plastic ratchet ties:
Fix one of these ties to each side of the U section , above the rubber rings. This will cause the rubber rings to move far enough down the U section to make them a tight fit against the lock bar and stop the rattling!
Apologies for blurred pics but my camera isn't the best for close-ups. Do not use zip ties that are too wide, otherwise you won't be able to get the 2 parts of the lock to close together. I was out for a 100km ride yesterday, a section of it on Land Rover track, and it was silent bliss........
