Cumbria Highways Consultation

Hello
I’ve been reading CycleChat for a while. I’m based in Cumbria and currently enjoying bumbling round the quiet lanes and the traffic free tracks built on the old railway lines.

This is why I’ve finally joined the forum:
Cumbria Highways have a draft design guide out for consultation.

It doesn’t seem to have been publicised anywhere. There are some interesting ideas about cycle ways (see the “good practice” photograph on page 80). There are links within the document to the Manual for Streets and Manual for Streets 2. It also refers to LTN2/08 which is the government document on cycle infrastructure design this is the link.

Like all planning stuff, it goes on a bit, but if you live in Cumbria you might want to comment. You have until 4th September.
Next time, we can talk about cycling.

Does it refer to Highways England's IAN 195/16 or the London standards?

LTN 2/08 has also had some improvement by LTN 1/12 I think, but it's still nowhere near as good as the others, basically stuck in the 1990s junk and very open to misinterpretation by councils.

The only references I've found are the ones I've quoted, there may be others that I've missed. Cumbria highways do seem to have their own interpretation of the guidelines. Sometimes it sounds quite sensible, but it all depends on how they build stuff. There are lots of get out clauses on things like lane widths.
I seem to have spent all Winter commenting on the local plan and a planning application near our house so I'm putting off reading this document in detail and composing my own comments.
