Hello everybody.

Tempted by the simplicity of internal gear hubs, I got myself a Cub3 3ditor 2O25. It is fitted with a Shimano Alfine SG-S7001, a Gates BSA bottom bracket and a Gates S301 CDC crankset.

I bought it online, seemed all good except that when I tried riding it, it kept skipping and I found out the belt had no tension. Having no experience with IGH, I did some research on belt tension and came up mostly empty.

https://www.cube.eu/be-en/support/help-faq -> TECH QUESTIONS -> HOW DO I MAINTAIN AND SETUP MY BELT DRIVE

BELT DRIVE ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
GATES CARBON DRIVE OWNERS MANUAL

which mostly explain how to check the tension. I pinged Cube direct, got a ticket and absolutely no anwser.

Checked the Gates site, again very little info.

I found this YT video which deals with the 2021 version:

The parts seem similar enough but those instructions don't work for me. He is putting an allen key inside that hole but for my bike at least that seems pointless.

After some fiddling and loosening the 2 bottom screws as in the video, I tried to turn the whole crankset counter-clockwise by hand (not just turning the pedals) and that actually did tighten the belt. Testing with the Gates app confirmed the tension was in the correct range(35-50Hz).

What is worrisome is the lack of detailled instructions regarding the whole process and I would rather not damage the bike. Does anyone have any experience with that Gates/Shimano setup ?

Specifically, what is the required torque for those bottom screws because that is the only thing that prevents the crankset from moving ? That and other details that may need checking like sprocket alignment (The crankset can move lateraly).

Many thanks
