A. Well you can get discouts in some bike shops and I think it gives you 3rd party insurance
B. I don't know but I think you can phone up and pay by debit/credit card.

Worth comparing the benefits with those of British Cycling membership and if you are in London, with LCC.

CTC is the right group for the touring, utility & commuter cyclist except perhaps in London where LCC/London Cycling does much good work. Cost is about £36pa for an individual which gets you the bi-monthly mag, access to advice & services and third party insurance. That sems reasonable value to me but you can get cut down memebership via an affiliated group for £12 which just covers the basics.

I pay mine by direct debit.

Morning,

Quick one.

A) Is it worth it?

B) Can you pay by direct debit?

Jon.

Yes and yes

Some will argue that house insurace will give the same 3rd party cover, true but mine has a £250 excess and i would not want a cycle claim logged against my household policy

Yes on both counts.

Full CTC membership gives you both third party insurance if you cause an accident and legal assistance from the CTC solicitors should you be the victim of someone else's accident. I rather hope I don't ever have to use either, but it's still peace of mind.

Worth checking BC Ride membership, legal and insurance benefits very similar, and a bit cheaper, I think. It's close though. BC are getting heavily into the market for non-racing, most of their members from the stats are not race licence holders, so well worth a look?

Thanks for the replies.

I just completed the page to join the CTC as an adult member, but it took me straight to a page to pay the full £37.00 by credit or debit card with no option of direct debit?!

I'll look into BC in the meantime.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
I joined BC when my ctc sub was due because i got it for £12 for the same level of cover on the ride membership, sure i do not get a magazine or sub and i always found wiggle to be overpriced even with the discount

It's worth it for the insurance alone (which is also a nice rebuttal when a mouthy motorist starts the tiresome tax/insurance thing - zero emission vehicles don't pay 'tax' and I AM insured!) the other bits are nice extras - so IMHO go for it.
I'm an LCC member, but I spend most of my time pedalling in London.
