I was 18 at the time. The route taken north from Land's end at most times avoided, where possible, A roads;and as such totalled near to 1000 miles riding.
I still have the list of riders,[age range between 16 and 60]and the route booklet produced by the CTC.
Two of the lads,[it was all males]were hospitalised after a car ran into them outside Hawick in the Borders.Unfortunately they were unable to continue.
There were many different characters and levels of cycling experience among the group.
I recall Nick Crane was a terrific organiser/leader,with a good balance of enthusiasm, knowledge and humour.
Sadly none of us kept in touch after. To find anyone still around would be fantastic.
Further to the April 78 EtoE,I rode in a 500 mile event,[BCF Commemoration of 100 years of organised cycling]from Cambridge to Aberdeen,in the August of 1978.Knackered and halucinating,[sleep deprivation]I packed in at Edinburgh.Anybody no anyone who took part?
"Cycling Weekly did a feature at the time;lost my copy in house clearance some years ago.
