Crud Roadracer mk2s - I must be missing something!

So this is probably going to have a very simple answer and I've probably got something wrong, but I've just been installing my Crud Roadracer mk2s but the long tail for the rear doesn't fit flush as well as the short tail. Am I doing something wrong? (Being practical is not my thing, as you might have guessed!)

Short tail (not screwed on) - nice and flush

Long tail - not flush

Is this as intended, or?

Does the long tail not fit under the main mud guard?

Short tail is for the front guard, not the rear. Long tail on mine sits the same as yours, that's normal.
