I have just purchased the Crud Catcher racepack set, mainly for the rear mudguard but thought that it would be useful to have the front one too. However, when I place the Crud catcher on the downtube (not fitted permanently yet), it appears that it will trap the two cables. Has anyone fitted one of these and if so, does it affect the cables and gear change etc? I have a Voodoo Bantu mountain bike.

I had a problem with these on my boardman, the shifter cables fouled the mounts and the guard and the shifting went to cock. In the end I fitted a CycraGuard. This has two little optional rubber posts on the center line so it stands off the down tube with enough space so the cables are in free air as mother nature intended.

Thanks for your response. This has been extremely useful as I had not noticed the Cycraguard range before but have now checked out their website. The front guard appears to be exactly what I need with the rubber spacers which allow it to sit free of the downtube. This makes obvious sense and I don't know why other makes are not of the same design. Think I will be purchasing one in the very near future.

Not all bike have down tube routed shifter cables. Some have cable bosses on different locations, and, for instance, if we both ran full length outers it would not be a problem.
