Crown race as a compression ring

Ive changed the bearings in my integrated headset and ive lost the compression ring that goues on the top of the forks. Can i use a crown race to do the same job?

No not really, they are a different size and shape.

I'm presuming that you mean you've lost one of these :

Did the compression ring come with the headset or were you reusing the one that was there already? It may be possible to get a replacement ring - you need to check the headset model.
