Hi, i posted a problem in a wrong section. So asking here

Basicaly when i took off an old pedal it appeared to be cross threaded (hard to undo, bits off metal between the pedal threads..thanks Halfords!) It didnt look too promising! I thought id try to see how play there would be by fitting the new pedal and to my suprise, it screwed in by hand 1/2 of the way and the rest with a spanner quite smoothly until tight.

Has this happened to anyone else? I dont want to but a new set of crank arms and have no need to or would it be best to by a new set?

if it stays tight and feels normal when you ride then no problem.

if they are cross-threaded they feel really strange when you cycle - like it's moving from side to side under your foot as you pedal.

Yep I had this once. It was my own fault as I'd bought some Look Keos that needed a large allen key rather than a pedal spanner to attach them. It started off feeling like my cleat had come loose as my foot was shifting under power. On trying to climb a hill it became obvious it was actually quite dangerous and could come out.

However that said, so long as your pedals remain tight to the crank I wouldn't worry but do be prepared to have to replace the crank if it does start getting loose.

Did it feel normal on the old pedals? If so, then maybe it wasn't cross threaded at all.

The old pedals were fine, i was upgrading the pedals it was just the L/H one was really hard to get off and bits of metal come out with it.. there didnt look like there was hardly any thread left in the pedal bit on the crank either. Time will tell
