So ive just been trying to fit the Chromoplastic front mudguard, prettymuch lost the will to live after 2 hours, finally got it centred, tryed to tighten it up and now the srews just spinning. Carbon fork, with some kind of alumminium insert. Pic of the healthy mount (above the brake).

I'd go for thread lock and never taking it off again

Or you can tap it again but that needs tapping tools ect (go to lbs and look at floor and ask)

Id like to be able to remove the guard when the better weather arrives. So the fact its a carbon fork doesn't really make it much more difficult (for a lbs) to sort out?

Thats the cheapest, quickest and easiest option you have.
A good quality medium strength loctite should hold it (unless its all so loose its ridiculous) and you should be able undo it all later without too much trouble.
Its not guaranteed, but as a quick cheap option, it has to be the first to try.

Out of interest...which bit appears damaged. Screw threads, threads in the fork, or does the alloy insert spin in the carbon forks.

Its the thread in the fork thats damaged, well the rivnut thats inserted in the fork. Can rivnuts be retapped, or is it drill and start over job. You would think someone would have thought of a remover tool. Heres a pic of the damaged bit.

rivnut remover tool is a drill, not sure I'd want to work with carbon like that though

Can't think of a reason not to retap a rivnut, its just you'll be limited on the size you can drill it out to until the rivnut falls apart
