My Madone is making unhappy noises. Nothing should be worn that badly...the bike is 9 months old and has only done 1000 miles on the road, mostly in sunshine, with another 400-500 miles on rollers. what are common causes of creaks? I'm trying to eliminate other causes (other than the BB) before taking it into the lbs.

I hadn't considered the seat post and I have recently changed the saddle. The other possibility I'm trying is cleat tension as it set at it's lowest. The BB is a BB86 running an Ultegra crankset. It dosen't feel like it has any play in it and was serviced at 1000miles (since which it's mostly been on rollers).

Seat post and saddle rails are the cause of a high percentage of unwanted noises.

If it's BB30 take out the cranks, clean the BB axle and grease the areas where it fits inside the inner races.

I couldn't find my creak so took it to the lbs . They stripped it and regreased everything but the main culprit was the forks . A regrease there seemed to do the trick .

I've tightened the tension on my pedals/cleats and the noise has all but gone. Thanks for the pointers.
