Creaking shifter

Bit of a strange one - my right (rear derailleur) shifter has started to creak when changing gear...its something of an odd squeak as much as anything else. Sounds like a little high pitch lamb!

Iv looked online as to how to lubricate them, but getting mixed thoughts.

Was wondering is anyone here might have any thoughts?

I don't think you'll do any harm if you spray WD40 or similar onto the pivots and (as far as possible) into the insides. Or try dribbling a bit of light oil on / in it and then wiping off the surplus.

Also, make sure it's securely fastened to the bars and that you're not moving it slightly when changing gear.
