Hi,

After removing, regreasing and re-fitting my bottom bracket I found it was the pedel that was creaking.
Its a shimano M520 clipless, is there any way to refurb these pedels?

I should have googled more, yes, it is possible but needs a pd40 tool. Youtube has vids.

D`oh!

Which bit is creaking, Paul?

They, apparently, have sealed cartridge bearings, so there's probably not a whole lot you can do but, I found this article which seems to have a much greater depth of knowledge than I can offer.

Which isn't very difficult, really.

Im not sure, I think it could be the thread that goes into the crank arm, but its only a hunch as the bearings seem smooth when turning it by hand. Safer to replace them that get another crank arm if it damages the thread. It was screwed in tight enough.

All I know for sure is replacing the pedals sorted it.

Im pretty sure Im going to keep these good m520 on the tricross, and get some a600 for the secteur.

I might get one of those tools, just to have a play and see if I can fix it as a spare.

I had a noise/click which was coming from the left pedal area. I wasn't sure if it was the crank, pedal or cleat so I check the tightness/play of all three and everything seemed OK. I then replaced the pedal with an identical one from one of our other bikes. Noise gone, problem solved.

Just before ordering a replacement, I put the original pedal back on and .... noise still gone, problem still solved (and several weeks later is still solved). All very odd. The pedal was tight to begin with and they tend to tighten through use anyway because of the thread direction.

Hmmm...

Might be worth refitting it and giving it another try.

Perhaps we had some grit or other contamination that was just in the right place to cause creaking.

They can be noisy if not clean - either they need to be full of mud, or clean - work fine. Bit bits of road grit...might creak.
