Creaking bottom bracket - replace under warranty?

Hello,

Ever since I got my Spesh Allez sport six months ago, the bottom bracket has creaked under heavy load (climbing or just pedalling hard). It doesn't feel stiff or restricted, just noisy. I took it back to the LBS and they agreed that it was noisy, stripped it, re greased and re tightened and it was ok for 20 miles or so, but the creak returned.

Is it worth taking it back and requesting a new BB under warranty? Or is it the sort of thing that is just wear and tear?

It might not be the bottom bracket. Did the LBS remove and re-grease the pedals? Or have you?

But if the LBS agrees it's bottom bracket noise then I would have thought they'd replace it under warranty. You can only but ask.

Chase it but really, don't bother trying to analize it yourself, that's their job. All they need to know is that it creaks and that you want it fixed, under warranty, right now.

Yeah, definitely the BB. Have changed the pedals and it occurs with both. Also certain its not headset.

I'll drop it in and see what's what.

I had the same problem with my Trek 1.2. I tightened it myself which solved it short term (and told me that it was the BB not something else) but it got worse again so LBS did it under warranty.

Having said that it can be very easy to mistake noises from elsewhere for BB trouble

what about the cranks? I had horrid creaking and was convince it was failed ultegra BB - tuned out to be the bolt holding the cranks not being tight enough.

take it back to shop. how did the regrease the BB - they are sealed units?

Probably re-greased the threads..... might not have been done up tight enough ?

When you take the bike back to be checked, make a note of the mileometer reading. And make sure you get it back with a full tank of gas

Had the same on my SCR2.0 - BB was fine, the creak came from the cranks.
