When my local Tesco was redeveloped, they put up a sign saying "cycle parking" but forgot the stands. When they finally got around to putting the stands in, they were unusable because they were surrounded by trolleys.

I did what most other people would do: grumbled about it but didn't bother complaining. But a local cycling campaign group did send in a complaint, and Tesco responded by re-organising the trolleys, then adding loads of extra Sheffield stands too!

Now if they'd only stop the daily mucking about with their prices I'd almost enjoy shopping there.

It may be cr@p but its better than the non existent cycle parking at the two tesco's local to me, its almost guaranteed that the latter is in contravention of their planning conditions as it was only built last year the other probably is too and its been Scottish Policy for a while now.

I hadn't thought of that.

We have just had council planning permission letters around about some new potential new houses being built nearby. From reading the application online it would appear that local (and perhaps country) planning laws require a local transport strategy. IMO, if there is a contravention of any of the plans, the council would act.

Well, I have experience of my own council doing something. Can't comment on others.

As I said before it is something that tescos are well known for. The problem with these debates is everyone always tries to be clever and says yeah but my local tescos has a runway, changing rooms and meet and great service for my cycle parking. When you look at several councils and many tescos patterns emerge. There really are reasons that some people say what they do.

The new-ish Tesco Metro I pass on the way to work has a good cycle stand right at the front of the store, it is also covered
My local Tesco has stands at the left corner near the cash machines, but most people lock them to metal railings, or the fence at the front.
