Saw some bike stuff outside a house across my road today, and waited to see if they were taking it back, at about 4 ish I went across and knocked and asked them whether they were giving it away, the lady said I could have all of it if I found anything I needed. Came away with 3 barely used MTB tyres (one of a different size [thinner]) and a big knobbly pair, plus a not too badly worn Shimano crankset!

I've looked it up and it seems to be a discontinued Tourney TY21, so not great, but it looks nice and I wondered if anyone knew exactly how good it is? I mean, I could change the current one on my hybrid (Acera rear mech, not sure about the cranks but they don't say Acera on which some I've seen do (don't they?)). Good idea?

Here's a pic:

At the Acera level there's probably not a great deal of difference in quality between what you've already got on your bike and what you've inherited - pressed steel chainrings riveted (i.e. non-replacable) to alloy cranks.
Where you may find a difference is in the chainring sizes, so swapping your chainset over may give you some different ratios. Whether or not this is of any help is up to you.
