Hello all

This is part me asking for advice, part wanting to rant and let off steam.

For the last few years I've used type 1 eggbeaters on all of my bikes - I find them really easy to use and have no complaints with their performance. I can pick them up for about £30 if I shop around, and with a bit of TLC and the occassional refurb they do take a fair bit of hammering. However, I still treat them as a consumable item. If I get 6000 miles out of them I'm happy.

I've noticed though that for the last couple of pairs I have bought, Crankbrothers have replaced the metal end cap with a plastic one. As anybody who has had to deal with these will know, they may as well be made out of cheese. Even when the thread is well greased they strip very easily - I've had to dig a couple out with a stanley knife already which takes an age and is never satisfactory really.

My question is - has anybody found a way of removing a partially stripped end cap? I know you can pick up metal replacements on the ebay (from Hong Kong) but I was wondering if there was another way

Thanks for looking

Bump. Anyone come across this? I assume the problem extends to the Candy as well as Eggbeater.
