Crank dust caps

Hello everyone. Hope everyone is keeping safe.
I am having a bit of difficulty removing the dust caps. Does anyone have any tips ?

Coin, wrapped in cloth held with mole grips? Using anything narrow tends to chew up the slot. BITD in the bike shop we had a huge screwdriver that I was told came from a shipyard

Really wide screwdriver, if the allen(hex) socket has been damaged (the hole in the middle).

The hole is round, (some had square holes) there was a special tool but we never bothered with it lol just be pleased it's not a red plastic jobby

Blade of a kitchen knife (not the super sharp stuff) and use an adjustable spanner on the handle. If it bends, deny any knowledge to the 'boss'.

Don't use the 'best' set !

Kitchen knife as above but if they're old they may just crack and fall apart. A wide flat screwdriver is just as effective.

If they crack get the bits out and replacements are available cheaply on eBay or similar.

This is the crank puller that went with my stronglight 49d crank set. Not the same thread size as later stronglight cranks.

Been in my tool box for about 50 yrs!

Be aware that some are threaded and some aren't. The non-threaded ones should be removed with a tool that looks like a ‡ but sliding under the edges with jeweller's screwdrivers and turning also works.

Used a coin wrapped in some tissue paper and came out undamaged. Thanks everyone ☺ .
