Good going

It'll only get better without the ciggies, dump them for good.

Well done Martin. Twenty miles is a great distance. Take it easier for a few days and don't overdo it. Just get into the habit of enjoying your rides as they steadily get just a little bit longer. Adding a new milestone gives a great feeling of achievement and it's good for morale, but it gets exhausting if you get over-ambitious too soon.

Good luck.

This is really good advice!

Well done on the ciggies. Waste of money! (Have you ever counted up how much you spent on them, it's a shocker! Then you count up how much you would have spent on petrol instead of being on the bike and it all makes sense!)

I did my longest ride ever the other day, it was 27.8 miles, after cycling regular shorter routes for 2 years. I was chuffed to bits and wondered why I hadn't done a longer ride before! So you're ahead of me!

Nicely!:bravo:
This time last year I was in the same position(apart from the ciggies bit as I've never smoked) with a new bike and struggling to do anything over 20 miles, now last month I did my first 100.As others have said just increase the mileage bit by bit,it may not get that easier but you will go further.Once you can do a higher mileage comfortably(say 30-40 miles) it would be worthwhile checking out any local clubs to see if they do a social ride at a steady pace.

Very impressive. I am over the 10 mile mark myself now - so 20 mile is my next one.

Must. Do. More.

Well done on both counts; just stick with it, try and ride even a shortish distance every other day and something longer once a week and your stamina & fitness will rapidly increase.

Well I had my longest ride yet today almost double my previous best distance, Legs were a bit tired on the last few hills but overall felt fine.
Being off the ciggies for a couple of weeks must be paying dividends, I am sure I would not have managed this a month ago.

Well done, I love this types of threads, I can still remember my first 20 (just over two years ago now) and the elation of completing it.
