Cow bars?

Does anyone know what cow bars are? I have seen that several events say you can't use "cow bars" but I don't even know what they look like. Does anyone have any pictures? Thanks.

They're more commonly known as bullhorns.

How about http://www.chargebikes.com/products/bikes/detail.php?id=11 I'd love to have one but I don't think I'm competent enough to ride fixed and I do have a decent hill which I might be just fit enough to get up on one gear but would probably do my knees no good

Any idea why they are not allowed in alot of sportive rides?
I ask this as it appears our tandem has these bars on the back.

Probably because they make very nice stabby objects in the event of a crash. Run up the back of someone with those on the front of your bike and it could be quite literally a pain in the arse.
