I was listening to the end of the Simon Mayo show this evening (Radio 2, Mon-Fri, 17:00 - 19:00), & he played Lynn Andersons recording of (I Never Promised You A) 'Rose Garden'

It got me thinking how, in some instances, a cover version is possibly superior...
However, I contest that KD Langs, is better
I still have my copy (on vinyl), & what a voice she has!!

And, as for her version of (Patsy Clines) Three Cigarettes In An Ash-Tray :bravo::bravo:
It's on the same LP as 'Rose Garden' & produced by Dave Edmunds (the 'Queen of Hearts', etc... man)

Another that, may or may not be better, but is seemingly accepted as the standard is Soft Cells 'Tainted Love'
Not a patch on the (Northern Soul) original by Gloria Jones

Then again, my favourite version is by Dave Philips & The Hot Rod Gang
Imelda May has a cracking version too

Whilst I like the original, Eels' cover of "Get UR Freak On" has a weird energy that isn't in the Missy Elliot version;

I love several covers of the Bee Gees' "I Started a Joke".

Faith No More's is the best "standard" take, I think;

...but this Spanish version is delightful;
