Coventry Eagle

I'm looking at an old coventry eagle bike for my sister, suits what I need pretty nicely, are they an ok name or should I keep hunting. Its for being pretty and fastish and lightish (compared to a massive mtb) as a birthday present. Funding is pretty limited as if she falls in love with the hobby I could find her something

Like so many once great names, a lot depends on when it was made.

Up until the 1970s, these were high end machines, then they gradually dropped down the pecking order. They were later part of the Falcon/Elswick/Hopper family. Even the later ones probably aren't bad bikes but possibly not all that light and will probably never be as collectable as the earlier Coventry Eagles - See here

not looking for collectable, more as a road bike I can afford to buy for her so I'm thinking to go for it

My first road bike when I was in my pre-teens (early 80's) was a Coventry Eagle Red Dragon. 10speed, down-tube shifters and suicide levers on the flats. I loved it I must say.
