Could this be an early Raleigh Lenton?

Further to another thread running I'm trying to ID a Raleigh. After a bit of rubbing down I have unearthed the decals. They seem to match the early Raleigh lenton decals, not the Sports model I had assumed. Your collective opinions would be appreciated. BTW the SA hub is 3 speed undated and the frame number ( 5 digit) does not seem to have a suffix.

It does resemble my Lenton quite closely, the lugs are similar but not identical, the forks are the same, bottom bracket is the same and green colour under the red is the same as mine, my Lenton is a 1952 maybe yours is earlier your chain wheel is a plain one mine it has the stork motif, perhaps others on here can add more

You could try some cellulose thinners on a rag to dissolve some more of the red paint . It might be a bit less drastic than rubbing it down and might reveal some hidden transfers . Have a look for places where relevant transfers might be located and try washing the red paint off there.
Is that part of chevron transfer that has been revealed so far ?

I can see the Chevron transfer and the words Raleigh both sides. It seems to be painted with enamel so thinners wont work. I think I can make out the letters POR onnthe seatpost tube and more traces of gold

Cellulose will work, you will just have to soak it a bit .
I have just found a site which described the Lenton Sports. They were finished in lustre green and featured a dramatic flash on the seat tube. I was wondering if that is what you have partially uncovered ?

I found a site called ,On the Drops which featured the Raleigh Lenton, Rudge Pathfinder and another model. It lists the models from the late 40's in to the 50's. There are pictures of period brochures which show the Lenton Sports model with a Raleigh transfer with pointed chevron on the down tube like yours .
