just wondered if CC'ers had a consensus of opinion on this? i was out on the roadie, saturday morning, after it was done raining and brightened up. on two occasions, once when just following the curve of the road and once, when negotiating a RAB, i nearly had a whoopsie.

in the first instance, following the curve of the road i grabbed a very quick bit of rear brake to (hopefully) make it grip and stand the bike up. result - didn't fall off.

in the second, negotiating the RAB, i'd approached a bit quick, had to get on the brakes to get round and, being damp and on slicks, it naturally tried to dump me off...let the brakes off rather sharpish and stood the bike back up. result - didn't fall off.

this may be the right way to do it, it probably isn't. it's just how i've always reacted on a bike of any type...sliding my bmx around for years on end as a kid has probably ingrained this but, i've no idea if it's the right way to do it...obviously there's a point of no return during all slides but if there's a better way to save them, i'm all ears

To be honest, the only skids I've managed to save are the ones I've done deliberately.

Sure, I've had the tyres slip and I've stayed on board but it's been luck. My reactions are simply not quick enough to do anything about it, or make it worse for that matter. Maybe I've been lucky but I've found that usually I get grip again and I'm fine, albeit heart pounding!

tbh I dont know what I do but I know Ive fortunately recovered a few. The last significant one was going through a rbt in the dark and hit diesel (I should have twigged earlier it was right out side a petrol station:blush: ). After recovering I heard the warning shout, 'oil'

There's not much you can do when you slip. It happens so quick few of us know it's happening until it's happened. Best to remain calm and hope to ride it out. Trying to correct a slide usually makes it worse.

I'm a nervous rider and will slow ahead of a roundabout/bend so I don't brake whilst turning.

I stay off the brakes. If I'm on them then I get off them, stand the bike up and try to increase the radius of the bend.

Twice in the last 12 months this has happened to me, once on a roundabout with plenty of road to stand the bike up, and once on a country lane. The latter resulted in a quite comfortable slow motion crash into a nice soft hedge!
