Something I discovered this morning which is important to ensure the GPS is functioning correctly is that you need to connect your camera to "storyteller" at least every two weeks so that it can update a file used to help locate the GPS satellites.
Also when changing memory cards, you also need to connect to "Storyteller" for the same reason.
If you do not do this, as I didn't, it will take a very long time to acquire GPS lock and the number of satellites found will be less than usual. It took my C+ over 10 minutes this morning before being informed by Contour support how to fix it.
