I have been using these on my Hybrid with 700 32 tyres .Max recommended pressure is 87 ,I pump them, to 80 back and 70 front. Over a few months I have had 2 or 3 fail where the reinforcing around the valve stem joins the rest of the tube resulting in a sudden loss of pressure .

Is this a common fault or have I been unlucky?Could I be doing something wrong fitting them? I am carefull not to waggle the valve about when pumping.

I have checked inside the rim ,theres nothing there that could have caused it.Now using Specialised tubes ,will see how I get on with those.

Did you buy them all from the same place or time? Sounds like a bad batch to me.

Im baffled now. The specialized tube has just gone in the same place in the rain about 5 miles from home :-(

up until today I did wonder if continental had a faulty batch but obviously not.

The only slight thing I can see in the rim is that the rim tape is a bit off center there but there arent any spoke ends near the valve and it all feels nice and smooth.

Any advice greatly appreciated at this point.

I blew a few tubes in a similar way, I reckon it may have been because of the pump I was using at the time - it was a mini pump and although I tried hard not to waggle it was inevitable once I got to a certain pressure.

I got a pump with a flexible hose and since then no problems.

When I'm using a hand pump on my bike I always brace against the rim with my thumb to avoid the waggle scenario. But perhaps you're doing this already

Is there a sharp edge on the rim's valve hole?

I'm a bit Vittoria Ultralight fan - been using them for over 10 years. Ditch the little washer (if presta's). I have the Conti Race ones on the fixed - seem fine !

Thanks for the replies. Im going to take the tyre and tube off again tommorow(Im getting good at it now ).

Will take off rim tape as well clean and closely look at the inside of the wheel. Theres got to be something there.

ensure that the valve comes out straight when its inflated, if its at an angle the jiggerypokery of riding can cut the valve base over a few rides
