confused ref new bike - help please

Hi all, I am getting confused and would appreciate others views. I have a budget of around £700 and have been looking around for a new road bike. I have been looking at the Giant Defy 3 (or maybe 2) but have recently seen a merida ridelite 91 and various others. There doesn't seem to be much difference between either of them to a novice like myself. Could someone please point me in the right direction regarding new road bikes at around this price point. Giant Defy, Merida's (and others trek et al) are good bikes and as you say not much difference in specs just go for the one after test ride you like the feel of.

@Pjays666 how ya doin? My mtb is a merida and you know about my defy like others said i'd just ride em both and see which you like the feel of the best, One thing i have noticed is the Merida doesn't come with peddles so you need to factor in a little more on your budget for peddles.
