Right so far I only have a small hand pump that you take with you on rides for when you get a p*****er. Anyway before my ride tonight i used the pump for the first time and riped the valve from the innertube because i was useing it all wrong, now afeter useing it i now know how to use it lol.

Anyway when i pumped the innertube up it was far to big for the wheel then when i let it done it fitted, is that right and also I got it from Evans cycles and he assured me it was the right innertube for my Allez 09 that they had in the shop so I am sure it is.

1. So should it seem bigger than the wheel untill you put the tyre on and pump up?

2. Why did it only take my 5 mins to play about with the pump and innertube and fit the tyre, i have read some horro storie on here about the first time?

Have i done this correct or ****ed and bodged it?

You know that you're supposed to put it inside the tyre before you inflate it, right? ;)

Hahaha, so you're just natrually suspicious of things that are full of hot air, eh? ;)
I think they will always seem way too big if inflated when they're not encased in tyre.

Hope that helps set your mind at rest

I was terrified the first time! I'd read in theory what had to be done, but had never taken wheel/tyre/etc off of bike. As a kid, my brother had always done arcane things with sticky patches and bowls of water and chalk when needed.
Laid in ready for the day it inevitably happened, I had two spare inner tubes and a repair kit inc. tyre levers with me in my pannier, plus "a step-by-step with photos complete idiot's guide" of what to do printed off from a website!
I think the whole lot took me less than ten minutes to do, I was extremely pleased with myself even if all I did was change the inner tube and pump it up - I'd been ready to call on someone from the BUG at work if I had to, but no, I'd been self-sufficient and speedy (which kind of sums up what I like about cycling, really!)

If you pump up a tube off the wheel, it will always seem massive. But don't worry. And no, changing a tube is not as hard as some people make out. There are just some particular combinations of different brands of rims or wheels and tyres, coupled with the problems of weather (freezing fingers!) that can make it hard.
